Hot cereals

Farina

 1 cup whole milk

1 tablespoon farina

1 teaspoon butter

dash to taste salt

 

1.      Heat milk in a pot.   

2.      Slowly add farina, stirring occasionally.

3.      Add salt. 

4.      Reduce heat to simmer.

5.      Cover and cook 20 minutes or until it is well done. 

6.      Serve warm. 

 

Oatmeal

1 cup whole milk

1 tablespoon Oatmeal

1 teaspoon  butter

dash to taste salt

 

1.      Heat milk in a pot.

2.      Slowly add oatmeal, stirring occasionally.

3.      Add salt. 

4.      Reduce the heat to simmer.

5.      Cover and cook 20 minutes or until it is well done. 

6.      Serve warm. 

 

Farina or oatmeal can be served with an apple sauce or a banana. 

Other fruits that go well with hot and cold cereal are strawberries and blueberries.

You may want to puree these berries if your child does not have all the teeth.

 

Farina and oatmeal cereals with milk provide calories, protein, calcium, starch, fiber, fat and vitamin A.  

Fruits contribute Potassium, phytochemicals, antioxidants and fiber.
